Julie London

  Julie London (nee Peck, September 26th, 1926 - October 18 in 2000) was an American actor and singer who performed for over 40 years. London was a torch-singing singer well-known for her soft, mellow vocals and her languid contralto voice she recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 and 1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her rendition of "Cry Me a River" which she introduced in her debut album. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her part in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency!



 



 London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. London started her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's long and successful acting career started in 1944 , with roles in movies. This included roles as the female lead in a variety of westerns. London also appeared with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) as well as Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959).
